SAMBA : A District Level Sports Meet under the MY Bharat initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, was organized at The Shri Ram Universal School, Jakh in collaboration with the Nations Development Association (NDA).
Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal, MLA Ramgarh and Former Minister for Health and Medical Education, J&K, was the chief guest on the occasion, whihonour Sanjeev Gupta TSUS Samba, attended the programme as the guest of honour. Sonika Mahajan, Chairman, The Shri Ram Universal School Jakh, was also present.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal highlighted the importance of sports in the overall development of youth. He said that sports play a vital role in promoting discipline, teamwork and a healthy lifestyle among young people. He appreciated the efforts of the organizers for providing a platform to youth to showcase their sporting talent.
He further said that such initiatives help in identifying young talent at the grassroots level and motivate youth to actively participate in sports activities along with their academic pursuits.
Earlier, Sushil Singh Charak Chief Functionary Nations Development Association (NDA) informed that youth from four blocks of Samba district—Samba Block, Ramgarh Block, Vijaypur Block and Rajpura Block—participated in the sports meet. He said that earlier cluster level sports meets were organized in different blocks, and the winners from those competitions qualified for the district level sports meet.
The competitions included group events such as male volleyball and female tug of war, while individual events included 200m race (male), shot put (male), badminton (female) and rope skipping (female).
Sports equipment were also distributed among participating clubs, while medals, trophies, certificates and other sports materials were awarded to the winners and participants to encourage youth participation in sports.
Among others present on the occasion were Sonika Mahajan, Amit Dubey, General Secretary, Harvinder Singh President District Samba, Narinder Singh Jamwal Block Bainglar, Naveen Sharma Block President , Nancy Choudhary Block President Manpreet Kour, Bhupinder Singh, and several other dignitaries and youth.
