JAMMU : In a significant move towards empowering women in politics, the Sainik Samaj Party (SSP), Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory (JKUT), has appointed Purnima Jamwal as the President of the Women Wing for the Jammu East Constituency. The appointment was made by the Chief Convenor and President of the Sainik Samaj Party, who warmly welcomed Purnima Jamwal on behalf of all party members.
During the announcement, the President emphasized the importance of ending the long-standing discrimination against women in the political sphere, especially in a democracy as vibrant as India’s. He highlighted that even after 77 years of independence, it is crucial that women receive their rightful share in politics.
Purnima Jamwal comes from a highly illustrious and distinguished Dogra family with a strong warrior heritage. Her father served the nation as a naval officer, and her grandfather, Brigadier Ghansara Singh, was the Governor of Gilgit in 1947. He was notably taken prisoner during the historic events of 1947 due to a conspiracy involving British forces and local Muslims.
Purnima Jamwal is recognized for her energy, dynamism, and vision. She has completed a strategic management course in the UK and has a passion for interior decoration. While she is new to the political arena, her potential as an asset to the party is undeniable. Her appointment is expected to inspire young women across JKUT and beyond who harbor political ambitions and aspirations.
In his address, the President also called upon Nari Shakti (women power) to join the Sainik Samaj Party and actively participate in upcoming assembly and municipality elections under the party’s banner.
The event also saw the presence of prominent party members, including Rajive Luthra, General Secretary, Art and Culture; Sanjiv Luthra, President, Jammu East Constituency; and Sumit Sharma, President, Jammu West Constituency, who all expressed their support and congratulations to Purnima Jamwal on her new role.
