NDA Urges Higher Education Minister to Consider Non-CUET Candidates in J&K Undergraduate Admissions

JAMMU : The Nations Development Association (NDA), a registered NGO working for equitable educational access in Jammu & Kashmir, has submitted a formal representation to the Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education, Government of J&K, seeking urgent intervention on the admission grievances of Non-CUET candidates.

In a letter addressed to the Hon’ble Minister, NDA Chief Functionary Sushil Singh Charak highlighted the growing concern among students who were unable to appear for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) due to unavoidable circumstances, including unrest in border areas, internet disruptions, and logistical barriers. He pointed out that the absence of a 20% Non-CUET quota, which was provided in 2023, has left many deserving candidates in distress this year.

“While we respect the intent behind CUET as a standardized admission process, it is unjust to deny access to higher education to those who missed it due to genuine hardships,” said Charak.

“We have requested the reinstatement of at least a 20% quota for Non-CUET candidates at the University of Jammu, Cluster University of Jammu, and affiliated colleges for the current academic session.”

NDA emphasized that equitable access to education is a constitutional and moral responsibility, and called upon the administration to ensure justice, inclusivity, and fair play in the admission process.

The Association expressed confidence that under the Hon’ble Minister’s leadership, the Higher Education Department will take a compassionate and student-centric decision to safeguard the academic future of thousands of youth across the region.
