NEW DELHI, 22 July 2026 : J&K BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma called on Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to discuss a wide range of critical issues, with a definitive focus on national security, border infrastructure, and the welfare of border residents.
During the meeting, Sat Sharma presented a detailed ground report highlighting the hardships faced by families living along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC). He emphasized the urgent need for strengthening protective infrastructure, including the upgrade and maintenance of community and individual bunkers.
Sharma forcefully raised the long-pending issue of land compensation for border residents whose properties have been utilized by defense forces or other agencies for infrastructure building and strategic operations. He urged the Defense Minister to ensure immediate, fair compensation, delivering long-overdue justice to those who have sacrificed their livelihoods in the national interest.
Sat Sharma strongly appreciated the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Defense Ministry. He asserted that the Modi government has fundamentally transformed the security landscape of Jammu & Kashmir by replacing past vulnerabilities with a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism, paving the way for unprecedented development and regional stability.
Sharma, championing the Centre’s flagship vision, pressed for the accelerated development of border villages, stating they must be treated as the country’s “first villages” rather than its “last villages.” He noted that robust infrastructure, connectivity, and livelihood opportunities are essential to fortifying national security from the grassroots.
Launching a sharp political attack on the opposition, Sharma contrasted the Modi government’s proactive welfare measures with the neglect of previous regimes. He stated that past governments remembered border populations only during times of crisis, completely abandoning their long-term development. He reaffirmed that the BJP remains unyielding in its “Nation First” principle, serving as a powerful voice for Jammu & Kashmir’s front-line defenders.
Rajnath Singh gave a patient hearing to all points and assured Sharma that issues regarding bunkers and land compensation would be examined sympathetically. Mirroring the government’s hands-on approach, Singh assured that he will soon consider a visit to J&K’s border areas to interact directly with residents and security personnel, reviewing ground realities firsthand. He expressed absolute confidence that J&K is on an irreversible path toward lasting peace and comprehensive integration.
